A live edge slab table is made from solid wood with the tree’s natural outer contour preserved along one or more sides. Instead of cutting every edge into a straight line, the design highlights the slab’s original curves, grain patterns, knots, and natural character.

The right wood depends on the color, grain, and overall style you prefer. Black walnut offers deep brown tones and expressive grain, while maple and ash provide a lighter, cleaner appearance. No two wood slabs are identical. Grain direction, color variation, knots, natural edges, and resin patterns will vary from one table to another. Product photos provide design inspiration, while your finished table will have its own natural appearance.

Loose or unstable bark is generally removed during preparation, while the natural shape underneath is preserved. The exposed edge is then carefully sanded, refined, and finished to create a smoother and more durable surface without losing its organic outline.

Small knots, checks, color variations, and mineral marks are normal characteristics of natural wood slabs. During production, areas that require additional stability can be reinforced or filled with epoxy resin. These natural details are part of what makes each live edge table unique.
